Large biotech companies scored great in 2019

Galapagos and Argenx did very well at the Brussels Stock Exchange last year. Together they created 10 billion euros in stock market value. Trends chose founder and CEO Onno Van de Stolpe of the biotech company Galapagos as Manager of the Year 2019. The jury praised Van de Stolpe for his billion-dollar deal with Gilead, and for his comprehensible communication about the company and its complex technology. Finally, the jury also considered it important that Van de Stolpe presents himself as an ambassador of the Belgian biotech sector and also seizes every opportunity in his home country to highlight the Belgian-Flemish character of Galapagos. "Belgium should be very proud of this, not only the government but also the community, because so much money from a private company is pumped into innovative research", says Van de Stolpe. For the small biotech companies, however, 2019 was a year of dull misery, reports De Tijd.
