VARIO advisory report 35 on Transformative Innovation policy reference work for Flanders

18.02.2025

Advisory report 35 has already had a significant impact and can be seen as a reference work for Flanders. It is being referred to in the R&D&I system analysis of the Department WEWIS (report, 2025), the concept note (Flemish Parliament, February 5, 2025) for new regulations on regulatory-free zones and the strengthening of innovation in Flanders by De Roo, Bothuyne, Vandeurzen, Declercq, Van Rompuy, Van Olmen, and Dochy, the SERV advisory report (2024) on administrative priorities and recommendations for a performant government, and a master's thesis from Ghent University (Transversal policy: an approach beyond the boundaries of sectors and competences, Maxim Roose).

Professor Hans Bruyninckx (former director of the European Environment Agency) also explicitly referred in his slides to VARIO Advisory report 35 during his keynote speech ‘Competitive sustainability in the midst of climate change’ on the Catalisti & Moonshot Day 2024.

The report was also discussed in the Brain Trust conversations of Itinera . Finally, the new Flemish Government Agreement 2024-2029 contains several indirect but clear references to the report in the context of the transition policy of the new Flemish Government (e.g., Agriculture, Energy, and Mobility).
