In the Flemish Parliament, several members of parliament asked questions in the Committee for Economy, Work, Social Economy, Science, and Innovation following the findings and recommendations in VARIO advisory report 37 'Towards higher productivity growth'.

Attention was given to the first recommendation on data regarding Flanders' productivity performance, the recommendations specifically addressing the sharpening of R&D&I policy, and the recommendations in related policy domains.

Minister-President Matthias Diependaele replied, among other things: "The VARIO report confirms that productivity growth is essential to ensure the prosperity and sustainability of the Flemish economy. I therefore share the analysis that a structural approach to the declining productivity growth is of vital importance, especially in light of aging, necessary transitions, and increasing international competition. The report rightly emphasizes the importance of an integrated approach that includes not only technological innovation but also investments in capital, infrastructure, and regulatory pressure reduction."
