Flemish Government presents productivity and competitiveness agenda; VARIO in first line in the development

20.02.2025

The Flemish Government is launching a government-wide initiative to sustainably enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the Flemish economy. The productivity and competitiveness agenda ‘Flemish Acceleration’ focuses on three central areas: 1) a business-friendly climate; 2) robust and reliable infrastructure; and 3) human capital. The government also emphasizes that Flanders, as an innovative region, must continue to invest heavily in research and development and participate in strategic research infrastructures. An initial evaluation of the plans will follow early next year. VARIO, as an advisory council, will provide first-line assistance to the Flemish Government in developing the productivity and competitiveness agenda. VARIO’s advice in this regard will serve as a guideline.

Editor-in-chief of De Tijd, Peter De Groote, writes in an opinion piece that he supports the intent of the plans, but that it is now a matter of ‘impatiently waiting for action’.
