Flemish support within the IPCEI batteries following VARIO advisory report
Flemish Parliament member Mieke Schauvliege submitted a written question to Minister Brouns regarding the planned battery recycling plant of Umicore and possible support for it. In his response, Minister Brouns refers to VARIO advisory report 22, which provides a framework for addressing future opportunities regarding IPCEI: 'The Flemish support for batteries fits within the IPCEI batteries, which followed the designation of batteries as a value chain of strategic importance by the Commission. This is based on a long process where selective priorities for the EU have been determined and alignment is sought to stimulate value chains across different member states. To carry out the selection as transparently and effectively as possible, the Flemish government requested a strategic review of Flanders' participation in IPCEI. In addition to the positive advice on participation in IPCEI, VARIO also provided a strategic framework for the selection of such applications.'
