WEWIS Committee of the Flemish Parliament discusses VARIO advisory report on Strategic Choices
It is essential for Flanders to make clear strategic choices in its economic and innovation priorities. This was stated by Flemish Minister president Diependaele in response to questions in the Flemish Parliament regarding the recently presented VARIO advisory report “Strategic Choices for Flanders.”
“We cannot excel in everything at the same time: only by focusing on domains in which we can build real critical mass can we sustainably strengthen our prosperity and competitiveness,” Diependaele said. He responded positively, among other things, to the recommendation to organize strategic investments no longer on an ad hoc basis, but through a portfolio approach.
“In this way, resources can be deployed in a more targeted and consistent manner, especially in times of technological and geopolitical transitions. A clear decision-making framework for setting priorities in technologies, ecosystems and value chains is indispensable to keep Flanders agile and competitive.”
Diependaele indicated that his services will thoroughly analyse the report and examine how its recommendations can be incorporated into future policy choices.
