VARIO's Vision on the Industry Policy of the Future in the Journal Over.Werk

Steunpunt Werk recently published its latest edition of Over.Werk, focusing on industry and industrial employment: risks, opportunities, and priority policy actions for the Flemish industry. This edition begins with five research contributions and also includes sixteen vision statements. VARIO contributed as well, formulating – based on previous advisory reports – a number of guidelines for future industry policy:

• Productivity growth is a key factor;

• Link innovation policy to industry policy;

• Promote knowledge valorisation and diffusion;

• A smooth innovation pipeline requires vigilance over a good policy mix;

• Prioritise technology and industry neutrality and do not fear creative destruction;

• Focus on international ambitious entrepreneurship;

• Improve access to funding;

• Apply a systemic approach;

• Invest in more innovation and STEM talent;

• Stimulate entrepreneurial experimentation through innovation-friendly regulation;

• Collaborate proactively with federal and European policy to create a level playing field.
