VARIO call is heard: no fewer than six Flemish representatives in the ITRE committee of the European Parliament
There will be no more Belgians in any European Parliament committee than in the Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) committee. ITRE has no fewer than seven compatriots, six of whom are Flemish. Yvan Verougstraete, founder, former CEO and director of Medi-Market, is one of the four vice-chairmen of ITRE. This meets the recommendation made by VARIO in its advisory report 31: ‘Optimal weighing on and responding to EU research, innovation and industrial policy’. Science Business has written an article about the new composition of the commission. Also in its new composition, ITRE opposes the European Council's proposed cuts to Horizon Europe in the 2025 budget. Science Business also reports on this, following the commission's first meeting. The Council is proposing to cut the R&I budget by 450 million euros, about 400 million of which will come from Horizon Europe.
